While I might not post on social media everyday, I still take a photo everyday and this Series is very important to me. It is lovely to hear how many people are enjoying it too.
Day 14.
Monday. 14th July 2025.
Snow Clogs, planted in the garden for Michael, they remind him of his childhood in The Netherlands. Dotted around the garden, like old friends, it’s lovely to welcome them back each year. A gentle reminder that Spring is surely on its way.
Day 15.
Tuesday. 15th July 2025.
Love how Loveheart popped her head out from the side of the bench and Daisy hopped out from under the bench. Honeybee is under there too, you can just see her to the left of Daisy. Myrtle the duck, Apricot and Sunshine the hens are also napping behind the bench seat. Afternoon nap time, they usually nap elsewhere, it’s interesting to see where they gravitate to in the garden, depending on the season.
Day 16.
Wednesday. 16th July 2025.
Each day Liliana and I go outside and sit in the Winter sunshine, it is good for the soul. We chat about lots of things, gardening plans, Uni plans, what we should cook for dinner, anything and everything. The hens and ducks usually congregate around us. Miss Polish decided to join us. She appeared from under the seat (not unusual), laid against my clog and proceeded to sun bake. This hen, she is a funny poppet. Needless to say we extended our Winter sunshine chat until Miss Polish hopped up and walked off. I mean really, how could we think of moving once she had made herself comfortable…
Day 17.
Thursday. 17th July 2025.
Marigold the Buff Pekin, settled for an afternoon in the Winter sunshine. Nestled on top of the hay bale and tucked behind the narcissus bulbs, the perfect spot for napping. Except for Miss Polish, the hens are five and over now, elderly ladies. They have their Winter routine, they won’t be coaxed out early and prefer the safety of the big Hen House until late morning. Then it is grazing, dust bathing and foraging for an hour or two and back to the big Hen House for an afternoon nap. Two-ish is their preferred time for a bowl of grain and then it is settling in again and early to roost well before the sun goes down.

A Moment in the Day Series.
This will be my third year.
Midwinter and I’m craving the everyday beauty that isn’t in your face like Springtime blossom, the abundance in the garden during Summer, or the golden light in Autumn.
For me, this time of year is all about looking for the little treasures. The beauty is still there, it’s about taking the time to see it. Hone your senses to take notice, it is so easy to get swept up in the day to day and feeling flat with everything going on in the world.
The cool air on your cheek. Grey skies become all the colours of silver. The tiniest snowbells catch your eye as you walk through the garden gate. Watching Apricot the Buff Orpington hen drinking; in those moments it is like a lesson in mindfulness.
In 2023 it was for the month of May, in 2024 my first day of the series was on the 5th July, and for 2025 I started on the 1st July.
Will you join me? Whether it is recording a photo on Insta, writing about it when you journal, or maybe it is taking a mental note when you notice the everyday beautiful moments around you.
I’ll be sharing my Moment on Instagram and in a blog post.
A moment captured during the day, calming, peaceful, that captures my heart.
A moment in the day, uplifting, something positive, as we are deep into the colder months of Winter in the Southern Hemisphere.
Sending Love from the Garden,
Jude x
