The golden afternoon Autumn light, soft shadows, ducks waiting to be fed, Honeybee happy to see me. Did you notice the shape of the afternoon light coming through the apple tree onto Honeybee’s chest? It is shaped like a love heart, how bonkers is that! I nearly swiped past the photo in the camera roll and then scrolled back to have a better look. For anyone who loves numbers, the photo was taken at 4:28pm on the 2nd day of the fourth month.
I walk around the garden and as always at this time of year, I question where to add more Autumn flowery colour.
Salvias, hydrangeas, sedum, they all grow well here.
The golden rod is gorgeous. I crave pinks and mustard yellows, to wear, to pink lime wash every wall in the cottage. I always crave pink during the colder months. Maybe the answer is simple, there isn’t much pink in the garden.
Lil made a lovely big tofu curry for dinner, enough for two meals, it has beans from the garden. Yesterday afternoon, colander in hand, off I went into the garden to fill it with home grown vegetables for the curry. Reaching up to the beans on the tippy top of the teepee I couldn’t help wondering how many more magical times are there left to pick beans before the first frost and the summer crops come to a stomping halt.
Autumn and my body is starting to quieten, the excitement of Spring days well behind, the dragging hot Summer days are hopefully over and it is time to relax into the colder months. Some harvests are still to come inside but the majority of the growing season is said and done.
Love from the garden,
Jude x
