Above: Before photo including the lovely shade of shagpile carpet. The cooker placed where the “old island bench” was. Bespoke dresser made to  fit to left of where the “old island bench” was.  Kitchen sink stayed in the same spot to save plumbing costs.

Double glazed windows and bespoke kitchen all made and installed by me.

Some details:

•The stove had seen its best days and was small, removing it provided the opportunity to change the kitchen layout.

•Kitchen cabinets removed, the previous owner used a lot of mothballs and the smell couldn’t be removed.

•The sink stayed in the same place to save on plumbing costs.

•The fake ceiling was removed (Each time the room heated up, by lunchtime most days, you could smell asphalt. Found the asphalt smell, it was a kind of coating used on insulation when the fake ceiling was installed).

•The double glazed windows were custom made to be as large as possible to let the light in especially during the colder months and catch the low winter sunshine.

• Windows open inwards (common in Europe) meaning flyscreens are on the outside of the building not inside near food preparation. The window design is also chosen to maximise the garden view – large panes of glazing at eye level instead of sash windows with small panes of glass “cutting up” the view.

Tasmanian Oak bench tops and cabinetry.
Homeowners are tall, benchtop height custom made to 930mm (saves their backs and more comfortable for them when working in the kitchen), bench top width 630mm.
