Hello,

I’ve been working away at reorganising parts of the Fairy Wren Cottage website and came across a post I had written 17th March 2022. In the post was a quote I read on Brene Brown’s website and the quote has continued to inspire me to move forward and motivated me to keep sharing the beauty in our days.

“I will never apologise for embracing joy and beauty – even when the world is falling apart – because joy and beauty are my fuel for activism.”

– By Karen Walrond, The Lightmaker’s Manifesto.

The energy always leads, and I share from a place of love and gratitude for the life we have created here at Fairy Wren Cottage.

We are now well into the second month of Winter. The garden is almost down to its bare bones and I can’t help but start planning for Spring. At this time of year there is always a wish for more bulbs. The Ziva Paperwhites have been flowering so early this year, maybe it is because we transferred them very late in the season from one garden bed to the other. Maybe it is due to the very warm Autumn and early Winter. It has come to feel a bit unnerving when things fruit or flower so early, climate change really has become so obvious.  Like an old friend, I know this garden well, we have been together for nearly 17 years.

I’ve been thinking a lot about the importance of space in the garden.

Space between plants for good ventilation and to let the light in. Adequate space between garden beds, foot path space. The eye softly focusing on spaces from plant to garden feature to fence. Negative spaces being an important ingredient for the garden to flow. Space for plants and trees to grow to their fullest potential. Space for plants to share the space with each other and what that in turn creates. Oh the many facets of gardening. I love it all.

Sending much love from the Garden,
