Hello,

I’m starting a new Sweet Pea Q & A, answering questions I’m asked on Instagram and via email. This way answers don’t get lost in the comment section and by sharing the answers it may help you too! After all the world needs more sweet peas and if I can contribute to that all the better.

If you have a sweet pea question I’ll do my best to answer it in this new series otherwise I’ll direct you to websites I have found helpful.

Please be aware that I have very limited use of my hand (that includes typing) I have created a Sweet Pea page dedicated to these gorgeous blooms so please check the Sweet Pea page first to see if you can find your answer. To do this click on the SWEET PEA tab at the top of this page, 2nd from the right in between STUDIO and JOURNAL.

Question: Should I sow Sweet Peas now?

Answer:

I don’t know where you live or your growing conditions. Here are some resources to help you.

When I sow Sweet Peas at Fairy Wren Cottage https://fairywrencottage.com/sweet-peas

My favourite Sweet Pea seed supplier in Australia (who you are probably already familiar with) has great growing information

Veggie and Flower Garden Seeds https://veggiegardenseeds.com.au/collections/sweet-pea-flower-seeds

For USA Sweet Pea growers: I suggest Floret https://www.floretflowers.com/?s=sweet+peas

For UK Sweet Pea growers: I suggest Sarah Raven https://www.sarahraven.com/articles/how-to-plant-and-grow-sweet-peas

For New Zealand Sweet Pea growers: I suggest Sweet Pea breeder Dr Keith Hammett https://www.drkeithhammett.co.nz

For other countries look for reliable gardening websites. A good place to start could be if your favourite gardening show on tv has a website. A local gardening club and gardening magazines that cover the area where you live are good options too.

Happy Sweet Pea gardening!
