Outside, the sweet pea tendrils are crisp and turning the colour of wheat, seed pods forming, the last flower popping up here or there, as if by some miracle. Inside, in front of the fan, dogs asleep in the cool, I am planning my sweet pea rows, seed planted late September to early October 2025,  for flowering December 2025 to January and February 2026. Happiest to stay at home and water the garden over the Summer holidays, spending time in my sweet pea rows is one of the loveliest things in the world for me.

So what am I planning?

First of all, I am going to allow more space for each variety. Growing on trellising this past season has been a learning curve. Tee pees made from pruned tree branches have always been my preferred method, but growing this many varieties meant we didn’t have enough branches for tee pees. Enter Michael’s brilliant suggestion of him building me permanent trellising to grow more varieties.

You know those days when you look down and realise you have subconsciously dressed to colour match something, maybe it is the table cloth, napkins and table setting you have set for the meal you are hosting?

Or you don’t realised until on reflection, there is a clear colour palette appearing in your wardrobe or garden or home?

I have days like that, every day. Funny enough, I can usually tell what kind of mood I was in by the different colour combinations of the flower seeds ordered.

Sweet Peas are no different except, I honestly thought I would lean toward the bold and bright and blousy. But on reflection, it is the heirloom and vintage inspired sweet peas that call to my heart.
