Hello,
I’m so excited to report back that after putting the call out for ‘Big Blue’ Sweet Pea seeds I now have some ready to sow in the Springtime.
Fortunately for us, Bec at Veggie & Flower Garden Seeds has been growing ‘Big Blue’ this growing season. She will have ‘Big Blue’ seeds available soon. The best thing to do is subscribe to her emailing list to get notified when they are for sale. Like all her Sweet Pea seed there is a limited amount available.
Some background incase you missed it.
It is so lovely connecting with like minded souls who love sweet peas as much as I do. A couple of week ago there were messages back and forth with Stacy, a flower farmer in Newfoundland. Newfoundland! Now for me, that blows my mind. I’m messaging someone on the other side of the world, in Newfoundland about sweet peas! Of course since I’ve always wanted to go to Newfoundland I’m curious about the growing conditions and gardening life there and what thrives there. Anyway, we got to messaging about sweet pea varieties and Stacy recommended the sweet pea variety ‘Big Blue’. She always has great success growing it.
Here are the specifics:
Name: ‘Big Blue’ Sweet Pea.
Type: A Spencer variety.
Raiser: Dr Keith Hammett. @drkeithhammett
Released: 2012.
While some sweet peas go by a few names, Big Blue is the only name it has.
Unfortunately, Dr Keith Hammett no longer sends seeds to Australia.
I love blue sweet pea flowers.
I love blue sweet peas by themselves or in amongst a mixed bunch. Elegance Mid Blue is a favourite that Bec sells (middle photo). Blue Shift is very popular too (end photo).

Here is the link to a lovely Sweet Pea article written by Bec that I read this morning called Documenting our Sweet Peas we are growing for seed.
Happy Gardening,
Jude x
Ps. Couldn’t go without mentioning some other blue favourites, Streamer Blue and Old Times, a blue blush. And that is Daisy in the middle who was convinced that if she stood still long enough I would forget that she was there!
