Hello,

The most prolific variety of sweet pea I grew this year out of the 35 different varieties was the Spring Sunshine series.

What does that mean in sweet pea talk?

“Spring Sunshine” is a collection of different (coloured) sweet peas bred by Owls Acre Seeds in the UK. Released in 2017-2018.

They all have similar characteristics like long stems, many big beautiful flowers, scented like sweet peas should be, together the colours work like an artist would create a colour palette. Most importantly, for me, because I can’t wait until sweet peas flower is that the Spring Sunshine varieties I grew flowered first and are the last to finish flowering (see the last photo, the SS varieties grew in the middle row on the left hand side of the gate), that is a lot of beautiful blooms over a long time. The bees loved them too.

So the varieties I grew were:

Spring Sunshine ‘Champagne’.
Spring Sunshine ‘Nancy’.
Spring Sunshine ‘Cream’.
Spring Sunshine ‘Peach’.

Elegance’Salmon’ (although not in the Spring Sunshine collection) gets an honourable mention as well because it looks lovely amongst these varieties and flowered just as early. All are ideal for early weddings and cut flower sales.

You can get the seeds from
@veggieandflowergardenseeds
they also have their sweet pea sale on, so many new varieties I’m excited to meet!.

In Spring I’m going to grow Spring Sunshine ‘Burgundy’ and, also bred by Owls Acre, a variety called Winter Sunshine ‘Cream’.

Until next time.

Love from the garden,

Jude x
