Come for a walk with me around the Wintertime garden here at Fairy Wren Cottage.

We have had some beautiful mornings where the flog lies low in the valley and takes until mid morning to lift.

The new growth, violets, snow drops, ornamental quince and Cootamundra wattle seems so vibrant against the Winter sky.

My faithful companions, Ebb and the chickens find warm spots to lay quietly with their eyes closed, drifting in and out of sleep. So peaceful, I am bit envious of them which is why one afternoon when the fog had cleared to a beautiful blue sky sunny day we got the picnic blanket out. Honeybee was a bit perplexed and didn’t necessarily like the feel of walking on the blanket but she stayed long enough to try and snuffle through Lil’s trug and run her beak across the blanket and find nothing to eat. She soon waddled off to the garden beds to look for snails and slugs.

The Quail sisters in our Back Orchard are enjoying the warmth of the little house they now call home. It is working well for them. The window on the south side of the house is always open to provide fresh air and the shutter on the window has hinges at the top, such a simple way to allow for fresh air yet stops the chilly winter wind whistling through. Building this house orientating it away from direct cold north westerly winds has so many benefits.

One Sunday afternoon I spied some wisteria vine on the bonfire pile and made my first wreath that soon turned into a Q for Quail, it is now on the Quail House big door.

Can you see my little parrot friend sitting on the fence? It often joins me when I am in the garden. This particular morning its song was so beautiful and clear, sitting so close by me when I was checking on the ducks in our Quince Orchard. It is moments like these that make life feel rich for me. Quiet, unscripted moments, so joyful and yet so simple and over in moments.

The beauty of the everyday.

I hope this finds you safe and well, take good care.

Sending Light and Love,

Jude x
