When I was a  little girl there was a time when I would often forget to make my bed. I think it was my way of rebelling!

But one day we were visiting my beautiful Great Aunty Jean who lived in the city and my mother mentioned my bed making rebellion!

My darling Aunty who I adored could not believe what she was hearing, always dressed in her finest fashion, never with out stockings or gloves when she left the house and her house never a spec of dust to be seen was in shock.

With a sparkle in her eye and always with such a loving, gentle expression on her face she thought how horrible it must be for me to get into an unkept bed at the end of the day. Why wasn’t I doing something nice for myself, looking after what was mine?  Like a little present to myself at the end of a big day. I was denying myself the sheer  pleasure of  climbing into a cosy well made bed that was nicely tucked, snuggling in and reading.

At the time the more I thought about it the more I realised my Aunty Jean had a point and forever after I have made the bed when I get up.

I think of my darling Aunty every time I make the bed and I am now 50! That conversation happened at least 40 years ago.

I also make sure there is a posy of flowers from the garden sitting on my bed side table.  The room is kept neat and tidy, clean and uncluttered.

The bedroom window always open when it can be to let fresh air in, the bedlinen well laundered & air dried if possible. Wool pillows and linen sheets.

Is there anything better than sleeping in your own well made bed at the end of the day?!
